The doctor asks how he got here today.

He wrote his introduction down last night, at the kitchen table, with his daughter. In the room, it is the first thing the iPad says — before anyone has to guess.

  • First, the iPad introduces him, in English: “I cannot speak. This iPad shows me your words in my language and speaks my reply…”
  • The doctor speaks. The words gather on screen as they are said — nothing is translated yet. He taps ¿Qué ha dicho? and they are in Spanish.
  • The English stays on screen, so anyone in the room who speaks both can check it.
  • Loquela offers a few replies for what was just said. He taps one, or writes his own. The iPad says it out loud, in English.

No signal, in a shoe shop.

The basement has no reception, and it does not matter. His phrases live on the iPad and the voice lives on the iPad. He asks his question and gets his answer.

  • Nothing to load. His saved phrases are simply there.
  • One tap, and it is spoken aloud in English.
  • Everything except live translation works with no connection at all.
  • Thirty seconds, and he is out with the right size.

His daughter asks if he slept.

Both of them speak Spanish. Nothing needs translating — he just needs the words, and a voice that sounds like a person saying them.

  • She asks. Her words gather on screen as she says them — same language, nothing to translate.
  • Loquela offers a few things he might want to say back.
  • He taps one, or writes his own, and it is spoken in Spanish, in a voice he chose.
  • A conversation, at the kitchen table, on a Sunday.

It is not finished yet.

Loquela is in use today and still being developed. It shows what is said, in the language you read, and speaks what you type, in the language the other person understands. Where and how it is used is up to you.
